Derek Chernow

Derek Chernow serves as the Chief Operating Officer of Fenyx Energy Inc., bringing over 25 years of executive leadership in renewable energy, transportation electrification, and environmental policy. His career spans both the public and private sectors, advancing California’s clean-energy transition through strategic policy, financing, and deployment of sustainable technologies.

History

Before joining Fenyx Energy, Mr. Chernow served as Western U.S. Director for the Coalition for Community Solar Access (CCSA), a national trade association representing more than 125 solar and energy-access companies. In this capacity, he collaborated with utilities, legislators, and regulators to expand equitable access to community solar programs and championed customer-driven clean-energy solutions across the western states.

Previously, Mr. Chernow led the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA) as Executive Director, managing programs that supported renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and clean-transportation technologies. Earlier, he served as Chief of Staff to the Chair of the California State Senate Budget Subcommittee on Resources, Environmental Protection, Energy, and Transportation, and later as Acting Director of the California Department of Conservation. In the private sector, he launched a cleantech venture capital fund, led West Coast Government Relations for an electric-truck manufacturer, and served as an executive with a public-affairs consulting firm specializing in energy and environmental policy.
